Find Your Go Button
Most people do not need more techniques.
They need better access to themselves—and the skills they already have—when pressure rises and things begin to go wrong.
That is where the BareBones Five Pillars come in:
Balance. Structure. Breath. Intent. Connection.
On 26–27 September 2026, Jim Armstrong will be teaching a two-day BareBones Combatives seminar in Karlsruhe, Germany.
Across the weekend, we will explore how the same principles can help you stay organised, make better decisions and take effective action whether you are standing, moving, dealing with pressure or trying to escape from the floor.
This is not about collecting endless techniques.
It is about learning how to find yourself, access your ability and use simple, adaptable skills when you actually need them.
Day 1 — Zero to Go
Saturday 26 September 2026
Accessing your skills under pressure
Knowing a skill and being able to access it when somebody is putting you under pressure are not always the same thing.
Zero to Go explores what happens between doing nothing and taking effective action.
We will use the Five Pillars to help you:
Find and organise yourself
Stay present when things become uncomfortable
Access your movement and physical skills
Manage fear, tension, hesitation and emotional overload
Move from reaction into purposeful action
Make simple skills more reliable under pressure
The focus is not on becoming more aggressive.
It is on developing the awareness, organisation and intent needed to act when action becomes necessary.
Find yourself.
Access your skills.
Act under pressure.
Day 2 — Ground to Go
Sunday 27 September 2026
Moving, protecting and escaping from the floor
Ground to Go is not a sport grappling or ground-fighting workshop.
It is designed for people who may not regularly train wrestling, judo or Brazilian jiu-jitsu but still need a practical way to understand what to do if they end up on the floor.
Using the same Five Pillars, we will explore how to:
Move more effectively on the ground
Protect yourself while under pressure
Create space
Manage another person without becoming trapped beneath them
Recognise opportunities to escape
Return safely to your feet
The goal is not to stay on the floor and fight longer.
The goal is to protect yourself, solve the immediate problem and get moving again.
Protect yourself.
Create space.
Get back to your feet.
Different problems. Same principles.
Although the two days explore different situations, the underlying system remains the same.
Balance helps you remain organised.
Structure helps you use your body efficiently.
Breath helps you manage tension and emotion.
Intent gives your actions purpose and direction.
Connection helps you understand yourself, the other person and the changing situation.
Day 1 helps you find your ability when pressure rises.
Day 2 helps you use that ability when the situation has taken you to the floor.
Together, they help you become more capable, more aware and more adaptable.
Who is the seminar for?
This weekend is suitable for martial artists, self-defence instructors, coaches and anyone interested in practical self-protection and personal development.
You do not need to be an experienced ground fighter or high-level martial artist.
You can attend either individual day or complete the full two-day seminar.
This is not smash, smash, smash.
It is more understanding.
More control.
More choice.
More ability.
Find your Go Button.
